Banya

Banya is very similar to the dry (Finnish) sauna and is referred to as Russian steam bath or traditional Russian bath house. However, the temperatures in the banya are lower at around 70 °C with a higher humidity of up to 100%.

The heater is located in the center of the room and is usually fired with wood. For refreshment and in order to stimulate blood circulation, the body is hit with bundles of fresh, soaked birch twigs.
